The purpose of the youth group is, by God's grace, to serve the youth by encouraging spiritual growth, strengthening relationships within the church, and providing opportunities for community service. Its goal is not to take the place of parental or church teaching but to build on the foundation already laid by them.
We meet every other Lord's Day in our church basement at 4pm for Bible, book, or topical study. In recent years we have studied Focus on the Family's The Truth Project, the book of 1 Peter, Family Life's Stepping up, and A Woman's Wisdom. This year we will be studying John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress.
On the off weeks, members of the congregation host singalongs for the youth group. These bi-weekly singalongs have helped to promote friendships between the kids and encourage the involvement of families within the congregation, and provide opportunities for sermon discussion. We also plan fun events (gym nights, game nights, field trips, etc.), and we strive to provide more personalized mentoring and discipleship outside of our regular meetings.
On the practical side of things, there is an annual mission trip that enables the young people to work with impoverished people in the United States through established mission organizations. We also plan local projects assisting families in our church's neighborhood or volunteering for organizations like Mel Trotter and the Pregnancy Resource Center. And the kids bless members of the congregation if they are in need of help.
Looking forward to seeing you all. Feel free to bring friends!
